"I.P. Frink, NY" Glass Font ID by Fil Graff,

This one can only be viewed in the "oddball" category!
The photos show a lightbulb-shaped machine-blown clear glass font
(7 1/4" long by 4.5" burner collar to bottom), with
"I.P.Frink N.Y." embossed on the large end, and a 1/8 IP
fitter in a brass collar at the narrow end. Both the burner collar
(#2 size) and filler cap collar have the Brown and the Taplin
collar patents stamped in (1875 and 1876). The overall appearance
has been likened to a light bulb,or a Victorian type baby nursing
bottle. The font isn't likely to be removable for filling, as
when it was screwed back in with kero in it, the fuel would run out
the burner. Yes, a special reverse thread adaptor is possible so
the font would remain upright, but.... The design suggests multiple
fonts on a single stem/bracket/something...there is a pair
(acquired together) known.
No obvious patents were found in the Leflet LIST; I have a nagging
feeling the Frink name is familiar. Have at it, troops! Any
information is better that what I have, which is no more than what
you see! Thanks! :: Fil ::

Hi! Please excuse the quality of the picture. It is the
only one I have. I found this lamp at a Northeast PA flea
market. The ring around the font has 1/2" high raised
letters that say I. P. Frink, New York, 1887. It has a
fancy embossed #2 collar and embossed fill spout. Burner is
marked M. B. Co. N. Y. *The Grand Burner*. Maybe this will
shed some light on your I. P. Frink item. Nate

Nate: Thank you! That at least tells me Frink was
probably a New York lamp dealer of size enough to buy
custom-embossed fonts!
By the way, your burner is Manhattan Brass, and the
"Grand" burner seems awfully large for a
finger lamp! :: Fil ::

Hi Fil. I don't really think its a finger lamp.
No handle. It measures four and one quarter in. high
and four and one half diameter. Bottom is shaped like
it fits in a basket for a wall bracket but it is not
a common size basket- smaller. Nate.
